Flora at the Pass

Hear me read it

I will never write of the cherry tree,
or think again on its impermanent beauty;
its delicate and breakable bones
or the pale flush of it's cheeks. I will not.

I will never again be pleased
to see its arms outstretched to embrace.
I won't call it my favourite,
or dream of it's presence at the momentous;

but at my wedding, there will be spring-bloom.
In my bouquet, my hair, my heart.
Enthralled in every quiet bud
of every quiet moment, cherries will be.

At my funeral, similarly,
entwined through my white coffin,
there will be the soft reflection
of its frostbitten petals. Even then.

For no matter what I am, or who,
there will always be blossom in spring.
There will always be cherries in my life;
and there will be flora at the pass.

The Stitches Series

Stitches

Undeniably my most popular works are the pieces featuring the character of Stitches, first written about in the poem of the same name, and then written about again in "Again," and "Stitches, To Be" and "Stitches in Silver". Stitches is based on myself, my personal journey, but is told through various view points of those around me.

I just want to have a box for Stitches because I know she has impacted so many lives, so many of you have contacted me to say that you are Stitches too... I am so proud of you all, and it's an honour to write something that so many people feel they can relate so deeply to.

If you are a visitor to my page trying to get a feel for who I am, although these poems were written several years ago they will tell you who I am - to find out what my work is, you should read the newer deviations. :]

StitchesStitches

Her name is Stitches and I love her.
She doesn't believe that - she says it is an improbability.
She doesn't say impossibility and that gives me hope.

No one but me knows why she's called Stitches.

I've run my hands over her soft white skin,
Flushed with the fevers of midnight.
I've touched it.

I've let my fingertips explore the hitches in her skin,
Where her body couldn't quite heal itself.

Old memories of gaping holes and vicious lies.

From her shoulder to her wrist,
From her knee to her ankle,
Any where she can negotiate a knife - she is Stitches.

It makes her cry sometimes.
She says she doesn't like being a rag doll any m
Again, - Draft OneThey call me Stitches,
Because of my Frankenstein heart.
A rag-doll heart.
A broken down, beaten up heart.

They call me Stitches,
Because of my shattered wrists
And the lines of remorse
And my warped memories and mind.

They call me Stitches,
But it still surprise them time and time again,
When I come apart
At the seams.
Stitches, To Be - Draft OneStitches, To Be

I won't need to ask the question,
You've heard it before,
In my mangled trivarications of the truth.

I've told you all that I am,
and feared that some of it is true.

I read the news today, oh boy -
I absorbed the worries of my society
and slept.

I am too tired to think and worry,
and write it all down for translation,
To write it all down for prevarication.

The truth is, it still hurts.
Just, over there -

Somewhere over the rainbow.
I miss you.

I watched her bite her nails

I did not stop her. I did not want to stop her.

Until the seeds popped out.

Kathryn O'Driscoll

Hi guys! I'm Kate, a slightly eccentric 25 year old writer from the UK. I mostly focus on poetry but I am expanding out and experimenting with lots of kinds of writing now.

This year I rejoined the real world and I am preparing for a Creative Writing & Media degree starting September 2013. With the outdoors comes mental input! So my writing is starting to come back to me. So if you wanna stick around while I find my voice again, please do! In the meantime, forgive my rust, and let me know if you catch spelling or punctuation errors! I love writing but haven't mastered self editing yet, so any feedback on that is really helpful.

Above all, I'm friendly but I'm not here every day so say hi but don't worry if I don't reply immediately.

If you speak a little French, or if you know a little fashion, you might know that je ne sais quoi means 'I don't know what', and that's what these photos have. I don't know what, a little something extra that made me happy or excited about the photography.

Communal Karma

In this series of features I showcase the people who suggested literature DD's in the past month. Suggesting a DD takes real commitment to a piece, it's more than a click to show you like something, and I like to reward people who go that extra mile to help other artist's get exposure for their best work, and to improve our community.

Je ne sais quoi

In this series of features I express my love for fashion, commercial, editorial, avant-garde and couture photography, with some other portraiture thrown in. All these images have a certain je ne sais quoi that makes me happy and I hope you enjoy!
