Latest news

Hi guys! Since my last journal I have added three links to my 'readings' collection (see below). I just added a reading of the poem I just posted, Tattoo so you can read that here or hear me read it to you and explain my thoughts behind it here. I also recorded my short story Wednesday, here.

I have been busy cleaning today so I am way behind on replying to messages but I will get on that right away, giggles, I promise!

I have also put together a little combo feature for my work You are not an island, and I just want to say thank you guys so much for sharing your stories and thoughts in response to that poem I will make sure that I reply to every comment on that poem as I promised, I love you all.

Tomorrow is another crazy day, food shopping and gift wrapping, but I will probably be here anyway  - laughs - so I will see you then. Again, as always, let me know if you want something I've written recorded, I will be unable to record any readings from Christmas Eve until December 29th so ask me now! :rose:

Someone has asked me about my old literature chat room, Lit Love. I was saying how it was a literature chatroom but the focus was less on sharing work and more on just meeting each other and getting to know each other, because a lot of people prioritise reading and commenting on works by people they know... and they suggested I reopen it. Any thoughts on this? I don't want to step on any toes (when it originally opened I think I did). Would you use it? Less writing workshop and more, how was your day, did you manage to finish writing your christmas cards type stuff. Just to make friends who happen to have similar interests in lit. Thoughts welcome!

Note to self: Inspirational prompts here.

Literature Competition: The Magic of Memories

Your challenge is to think of someone you love, and a memory you have had with them this year, and use that memory or emotion as the inspiration for a piece of literature. You can go off on a tangent, or stick with a retelling of the story, its up to you. You might wanna consider giving this to that person on New Years Eve, so try to think how you can make it appropriate for them as well as for a wide audience.

The deadline is JANUARY 12th at MIDNIGHT GMT. (the end of that day)

See the full and updated prize list, rules and how to enter here Wanna donate to the prize list? Just comment or send me a note. You can do this anonymously if you wish, or if you wish to donate points there is a widget on my profile page PoetryOD

See all the entries so far, here!
Hear me read it!

I have been recording readings of my poetry and prose (yay!). If you wanna hear me read something specific just comment and let me know. They are in order from newest to oldest recordings. WC stands for with commentary.

You are not an island

I have been alone. This man is an island.
The cliffs of my shoulder blades
hang heavy with grief, ore, suffering.
I am draped with the permanence of gravity,
So do not believe that you cannot move.
Come to me, water babes fully grown,

Allow yourself to be swept in salt and ash.
Tumble with your brothers into my arms
and be at peace, at last, on the shore.
I too was once drowned, but I arose
and as the caps melt, all things will erode
For no man is an island alone.

This journal doesn't allow thumbs in the feature to the right so I have used an image from LadyofGaerdon's gallery however it will link you to her poem Saltwater Veins which I think is an enchanting other-worldly piece of literature that reminds me of home, love and the warmth of being alive.
